VeryGames came out on top of the fourth RaidCall EMS One Cup with a 2-0 victory over compatriots LDLC.com (16-9 de_nuke_se, 21-16 de_mirage_go).

Despite the fact that both teams had done more than enough to secure entry into the EMS One group stage, they still took the match very seriously because of the prize money and the points involved, and, of course, because of bragging rights.

The tie started off on the CT-favoured map de_nuke_se, where VeryGames got to play on the defensive side first after winning the knife round. A rampant start from the ESWC runners-up saw them stroll to an early 5-0 lead, but the sixth round went LDLC.com's way, Dan "apEX" Madesclaire's side having made a perfectly-timed rush onto A which gave their opponents no chance.

It was the first time that LDLC had managed to break through VeryGames' stern defence, and they tried the very same strategy in the next round, but this time the CT side were ready for what was coming their way and easily stopped the rush.

VeryGames eventually managed to take the score to 7-1, but then LDLC reduced the deficit, having caught their opponents off-guard when they pushed the A site before going down the vents to plant the bomb. For the remainder of the first half, however, VG were in the driving seat, as Kévin "Ex6TenZ" Droolans' men secured a commanding 12-3 lead before switching to the Terrorist side.

Things went from bad to worse for LDLC right after, as VG won the pistol round thanks to Nathan "NBK" Schmitt's four kills. It then looked like VG had this one in the bag as they took the score to 15-3, but some quality shotgun work from LDLC put them back in the game.

LDLC started winning round after round, but it was too little, too late, as VG came out 16-9 winners to take the lead in the tie as both teams moved to de_mirage_go.

LDLC: close, but no cigar, once again

This time around, VeryGames started out on the Terrorist side, and it seemed like they would win the pistol round after planting the bomb on A, but LDLC comfortably retook the bombsite to get a lead for the very first time in the game.

After losing the second round as well, VG opted to buy weapons, and the move paid off thanks to Kenny "kennyS" Schrub, who went around the map and got the kill onto the defuser before killing the last player left alive.

VeryGames eventually levelled the score on two rounds, but then LDLC, inspired by Vincent "Happy" Cervoni, took control of proceedings and won six rounds in a row. VG still managed to get a third round, but LDLC remained in the driving seat and went into half time up 12-3.

Down by nine rounds, VG knew they had a mountain to climb to turn the score around, and they got off to a good start in the second half, retaking the A bombsite after LDLC had planted the bomb.

VG won the next four rounds as well to reduce the deficit to 12-8 before Dan "apEX" Madesclaire showed that LDLC had not given up with an impressive four-kill round. Some rounds were then exchanged between the two teams, until LDLC became just one step away from winning the map as they took the score to 15-11.

With their economy broken, VG went for a partial buy, a strategy that paid dividends as they remained in the race for the map. That one round powered VG to win the next three rounds to take the game to overtime, in which they would prove far too hot to handle for thei compatriots as they secured a 21-16 victory.
